So What is E Commerce Anyway?

E Commerce Working Made Easy

It is quite easy to explain how e commerce works. The exchange of goods and / or services over the internet is known as E commerce. You participate in e commerce, when you make purchases on eBay, Amazon.com or any online store.

Using online sources such as Napster or iTunes to download music is also a form of e commerce. Knowledge of the different types of e commerce from the start will facilitate better understanding.

B2B: B2B or business-to-business e commerce is the oldest form of e commerce. Electronic sharing and transfer of files and information was started by banks and other businesses way back in the 1960s. Due to lack of a standard for conducting this business, all businesses could not successfully transfer with each other. Thus the sharing of files and information was restricted. B2B e commerce really came into being, when a steadfast standard was set up in the 80s. All were following a uniform technique, which facilitated an easy exchange of files.

C2C: One of the popular forms of e commerce today is consumer-to-consumer or C2C. Purchasing anything online from another person via an ad posting on an electronic board or an online auction, instead of a business makes you a participant of consumer to consumer e commerce. Consumer-to-consumer e commerce is characterized by online auctions, the most popular auction site being eBay where all users are free to put their goods online and sell to the highest bidder.

P2P: The use of Napster for sharing files free of cost gave rise to P2P or peer-to-peer e commerce. Several instances of similar websites and file-sharing programs and systems can be found online.

B2C: Business-to-consumer forms a major portion of overall e commerce transactions and hence it must be necessarily mentioned while explaining the working of e commerce. Thus e commerce includes any purchase made at an online store or website, it can be a download of something electronic or any item that has to be shipped to the buyer. It is necessary to keep the following things in mind to explain how e commerce works.

An online exchange of any one or more of the following will give rise to e commerce: Information, Money,Goods / Services. You can explain how e commerce can be favorable by using simple concepts. For instance, if you wish to purchase a book, there are several online bookstores which you can use to compare the prices of that book and find the lowest one.

The cost of shipping the book and the shipping time are some of the factors that you should consider before selecting a store which can send you the book in the shortest possible time and at the lowest price. All of this can be achieved without having to stand in line, fight crowds, or spend money for transportation or gas.

It is not difficult to see the advantages offered by e commerce when you consider the opportunity to compare and shop for both small and large items. Though we can go on to actually cover the various advantages of e commerce, you will experience them personally when you actually purchase an item using this method.

To your continued success
